Saint Laurence's Day
San Lorenzo is celebrated on 10th August
Ancient origins, tradition of Cervia
As early as 1895, as an old poster shows, the population was invited to the traditional feast of San Lorenzo.
A raffle, fireworks, extraction of dowries, the melodies of the band and a grand folk dance
Our elders tell us that on the morning of 10th August, the peasants would come to the beach with their whole families, with carts and 'birocci'.
They would set up on the beach, sheltered from the sun by huge, heavy tents.
It is also said that bathing in the sea on this particular day is worth seven and exorcises various winter illnesses.
For this reason, even beasts were bathed to enjoy the therapeutic effects of seawater.
