Archeology in Cervia

Monday 3rd June 2024

Acervum Restaurant, Via Madonna della Neve 15
9 p.m.

The Archaeology in Cervia project continues with research that this year focuses on the area of Prato della Rosa, a locality in the salt marsh where the site of Ficocle, the first settlement in Cervia, is traditionally located. Above all, investigations in Prato della Rosa in 2023 brought to light the remains of an ecclesiastical building possibly dating back to the 5th century and, among many other finds, a papal seal of Clement III from the 13th century.

On Monday 3 June, at 9 p.m., the results of the 2023 excavation campaign and the plan for the 2024 campaign will be presented.

During the meeting, the archaeologists from the University of Bologna will talk about the project and illustrate the results of the archaeological investigations carried out in the area of the old city and at the Prato della Rosa site, expanding on what was acquired during the last campaign in the summer of 2023.

They will then illustrate the prospects for the development of research for the current year (the new survey campaign will begin on Monday 3 June) and the objectives and lines of investigation of an international project coordinated by the University of Bologna, centred precisely on Cervia and salt production, the PRIN 2022 project ‘Environment, Settlements and Production’, which will run for two years (2024-2025).
