Tribute to Maestro Umberto Folli

The group exhibition is a tribute to Umberto Folli (1919-1989).
The exhibition put into perspective the artistic, cultural and didactic role of an artist who consistently worked in the area for about fifty years, contributing to the training of numerous students and artists whose work today influences the physiognomy of contemporary art in the Ravenna area.
The artists Paola Babini, Rosetta Berardi, Alexandra Baglio, Giovanni Fabbri, Agostino Marchetti, Stefano Mazzotti, Maurizio Pilò, Franco Pozzi, Guerrino Siroli, Oliana Spazzoli and Stefania Vecchi have selected two/three works that highlight their mentor's influences on the one hand and their own personal and stylistic evolution on the other.
A collection of contributions that, although they are profoundly different in the outcomes and languages prepared, show the inheritance of a skilful artistic craftsmanship in the precise technical domain that becomes at the same time perceptive, emotional and conceptual control, prompting reflection on the reverberation of reality in the individual conscience.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to reflect on the role of art education and the importance of academies in shaping new cultural trajectories and the legacy of a broader cultural context. As curator Mara Predicatori says "...we begin here to witness not only the study of Folli's individual genius in an abstract context, but an investigation into how a specific territory, the Ravennate area, with its traditions, environment and culture, nurtures and develops unique talents capable of intercepting the unique yet multifaceted qualities of a context in the reverberations of innovation and tradition".
The exhibition therefore represents a first trace to reconstruct the physiognomy of a 'Ravenna School' that from Folli has been declined in different generations of artists, arriving up to us.
