Igor Mitoraj: Sculpting Eternity
Saturday 18th May 2024-Monday 6th January 2025
MarePineta Resort, Milano Marittima (Cervia)
From Saturday 18th May 2024 it is open the exhibition "Igor Mitoraj: sculpting eternity" at the MarePineta Resort, in collaboration with the Contini Art Gallery.
The exhibition celebrates the tenth anniversary of Mitoraj's death, paying homage to the artistic genius and sensitivity of the Polish sculptor.
On display is a selection of the master's bronze works, where he combines the classical tradition with the contemporary, creating damaged figures, headless bodies, and sleeping faces, characterised by soft, interrupted lines that invite viewers to imagine the totality of the figure.
"This new exhibition of great artistic value once again confirms MarePineta Resort's intention to promote the territory," explains Davide Salaroli, Sole Director of MarePineta Resort. "The exhibition of a great sculptor such as Igor Mitoraj is proof of the attention paid to art at an international level. For us today, art and design are essential elements, demonstrating our commitment and investment in culture through artistic forms ."
We are delighted to continue the journey that began last year with the Salaroli family and the sculptures of Park Eun Sun," comment Stefano and Riccarda Contini, owners of the Contini Art Gallery, "by proposing this year the works of the great master Igor Mitoraj in the sophisticated and refined design environments of the MarePineta Resort in Milano Marittima".
Mitoraj's works invite us to experience a journey through the aesthetics of art history, from the revival of classical figurative canons that are interpreted by the artist and presented to the public in a personal and contemporary key".
MarePineta Resort also confirms its collaboration with San Patrignano for the 2024 season. "We are delighted with the partnership with MarePineta Resort," explains the President of the Agricultural Cooperative Roberto Bezzi, "which has been renewed for years, made stronger and stronger by the common founding principles of friendship and community. We work together on projects that benefit the territory and people".
The exhibition will be open at the MarePineta Resort until 6 January 2025.
Further information on the artist's life
Igor Mitoraj was born on 26 March 1944 in Oederan, a small town in Saxony, to a Polish mother and a French father. He spent his youth in Poland, near Krakow.
After studying at art lyceum in Bielsko-Biała, at the age of nineteen, he enrolled in the painting faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
In 1968, Mitoraj left Poland and came to Paris to broaden his cultural education and enrolled at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts.
The great success of his first major solo exhibition, organised in 1976 at the Galerie La Hune in Paris, prompted him to devote himself exclusively to sculpture. At the same time, he was awarded the 'Prix de la sculpture de Montrouge'.
The then French Minister of Culture provided him with a studio in Montmartre in the Bateau Lavoir, while the following year he was invited to participate in the XLII Venice Biennale.
His works were installed in Milan, Rome, London, Paris, Atlanta and Tokyo.
In 2001, the President of the Italian Republic awarded him the 'Vittorio De Sica Prize'.
In 2011, the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento welcomed his monumental works. With this prestigious premiere, the archaeological site opened up to contemporary art.
In 2014, on the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the foundation of Pisa Cathedral, his works were exhibited in the Piazza del Duomo, inside the Palazzo dell'Opera del Duomo and the Museo delle Sinopie. Once again, Mitoraj brings contemporary art to a place where it had never before appeared.
Igor Mitoraj died in Paris on 6 October 2014.
