Happy Birthday Milano Marittima
Milano Marittima's birthday is celebrated every year with a gala evening on the evening of 14th August in the centre of Milano Marittima, in the Rotonda 1° Maggio.
The date of birth of the Garden City is officially considered to be 14th August 1912, the day on which the convention between the Municipality of Cervia and the Società Anonima per lo Sviluppo della Spiaggia di Cervia Milano Marittima was signed.
Milano Marittima was the dream of a few pioneers from Milan and Lombardy, who wanted to create here, on the shores of the Adriatic, the ideal town for their holidays on the basis of the master plan drawn up by the Milanese Giuseppe Palanti (1881-1946), painter, advertiser, illustrator, set designer, collaborator with the Teatro alla Scala and teacher at the Brera Academy.
With that deed, the municipality granted the Milanese Society a large stretch of pine forest north of the canal port (commonly known as la marena di frè), for the construction of a 'garden city', on the basis of a precise master plan that respected the environment and was based on Art Nouveau villas, according to the prevailing taste of the time.
The concert is held by the Adriatic Dixieland Jazz Band, a historical formation on the Cervia scene, which retraces the traces of early jazz, reconstructing the musical climate of America at the beginning of the last century.
To accompany the jazz notes, a group of swing-loving dancers perform on stage.
